About Me

I'm 30 years old and a new mummy to a lovely baby girl born in May 2013. I live in Mortlake, South West London, and am trying to get to grips with a whole new world.

I've worked for local government and children's charities analysing government policy targeting child poverty, childcare, flexible employment, welfare benefits, young people and public health, lobbying on behalf of children, young people and parents, but never fully appreciated the reality of being a parent and the choices we are faced with until now.

I still feel like a bit of a misfit in the mummy and baby brigade and am totally unaccustomed to the amount of pavement space we take up these days - I feel like I am playing a game of pram wars when we are out and about. In Mortlake I feel like I am very young compared to many other mummies, but in the town where I grew up many girls in my school had children a long time ago in their early twenties, so I feel like an oddball either way. I'm the first of my close school friends, uni friends, travelling friends and old work colleagues my age to step into motherhood, so I'm using this blog to record my adventure into the unknown!

This blog is about my thoughts and experiences of motherhood, babies, childhood, topical government policies and anything that relates to me in my new daily life as a mummy on maternity leave.
